Specialist: Procurement – (VADACOM)

Job objectives:

This position is responsible for the sourcing of materials, goods and services for the Company in line with the Company goals and objectives, particularly as stated in the Company strategic and operating plans. The Procurement Officer role will be dedicated to one of the following categories:


  • Terminals
  • Marketing
  • Network
  • IT
  • Corporate Services


The Supply Chain Specialist will be expected to rotate category procurement on an annual basis or as the Company sees fit.


Key Areas of Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible to:


  • Ensure availability of products in line with agreed Business plans by establishing effective purchasing practice;
  • Facilitate the delivery of effective purchasing service levels as defined in the business objectives;
  • Work closely with finance to assist in reconciling areas within procurements responsibility, ensuring suppliers are paid within credit terms and identifying any areas of cost saving and potential overspend;
  • Promote the development of contracts for the supply of goods and services to the Company. Ensure that the supplier database is maintained in the category area and the supplier policy and procedure is followed;
  • Ensure the five rights within the category. The right product/service, in the right place, of the right quality at the right time and at the right price;
  • Prepare various reports on purchasing operations, KPIs and savings as per the Company requirements;
  • Ensure that all purchasing operations are performed with the upmost honesty and integrity and that business is transacted with organisations that reflect Vodacom’s values;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure the efficient supply of goods and services;
  • Be responsible for purchasing intelligence keeping track of the latest products and price trends in the market and any potential new sources of supply;
  • Ensure that the Vodacom Mozambique procurement policy is followed at all times and the DOA is adhered to.

Competencies, Skills & Educational Qualifications:




  • Completed high school education or equivalent. A qualification in materials management, supply chain or commerce would be preferable;
  • A working knowledge of procurement or supply chain would be of an advantage;
  • Three years working experience, ideally in a corporate multinational environment and within an FMCG;
  • Some accounting knowledge and financial understanding.




  • Honest, Trustworthy and reliable;
  • Must have strong and reliable references;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Good commercial understanding, and some background knowledge on the Supply Chain and how it works;
  • Good level of computer literacy conversant with Microsoft Word, Excel;

Experience with any major ERP system would be an advantage;

  • Written and Oral Communication both in Portuguese and English is essential;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills with a customer focused approach;
  • Good written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work product;
  • Must be able to work in a demanding and dynamic environment.
