The Director, Social Performance will be based in Northern Mozambique (Pemba or Palma TBC) with the option of a rotational schedule out of Maputo (3 weeks per month).

 

The overall purpose of the role is to ensure that Anadarko’s Social Performance activities and projects in the Palma District and Cabo Delgado as a whole, in respect of its stakeholders (government, community stakeholders, NGOs and civil society, local media, the households and villages affected by resettlement):

  • are integrated and consistent;
  • reflect an understanding of local interests, sensitivities and priorities;
  • are based on an accurate assessment of social and community risks to the project;
  • represent effective risk mitigation

 

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in managing Social Performance and Social Investment Programs in the extractives sector.

Specific experience in the following is required:

  • Proven experience developing and delivering social investment projects on behalf of a corporate operating in a developing country.
  • Experience interacting with external stakeholders, including government and communities.
  • Pragmatism and the ability to adapt experience gained elsewhere to a new and challenging environment in Mozambique.
  • Confident communicator with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work within a diverse and multi-location team
  • Highly organized with an attention to detail and accuracy.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Being the “senior face” of Anadarko in Palma;
  • building strong and effective relationships with senior Mozambicans in Palma and Pemba without undermining the existing relationships held locally by senior members of the Anadarko team who are implementing current projects;
  • assessing local dynamics, especially in the Palma District, and nipping crises in the bud, before it is too late;
  • working closely with the teams accountable for resettlement and for government engagement nationally and influencing their activities so that as a whole Anadarko is effective and coordinated;
  • working alongside our onshore contractors to deliver the above objectives without blurring lines of accountability to the Country Manager or Capital Projects;
  • leading a Social Investment strategy, which will include building a long term plan;
  • Working closely with the teams and contractors responsible for delivering Anadarko’s local content, workforce, and training plans to ensure these work streams are coordinated and complementary to one another, and support the company’s wider business objectives

Education
