Role purpose: At Vodacom, we build highly complex systems while ensuring performance, reliability, scalability, and automation. Production engineers at Vodacom are hybrid software/system engineers who ensure optimal performance and reliability of our production systems that support millions of customers. This person will report to the IT infrastructure division but, the production engineering roles are embedded in other teams and dotted lines to the team manager. This role will bridge the infrastructure and the application teams. We are looking for someone fluent with Linux (any flavour) and comfortable with programming/script basics (any language). This role will require a high level of collaboration between multiple teams, including infrastructure, development, and applications teams. This role will require learning and supporting new technologies included in our production’s systems roadmaps.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership

Proactive infrastructure monitoring, including implementing automations to enhance the monitoring.
Respond to incidents and write root causes and post-mortem.
Conduct capacity planning, performance monitoring and architectural reviews.
Patch security vulnerabilities within the agreed SLAs.
Provide feedback/contributions back to the development to improve the applications.
