Short Description/ Purpose of Job

The Mgr Gas Proj Community Government & Licencing Affairs is responsible for implementation of Sasol Projects Community Engagement Strategy. Also, the responsibilities include to develop and maintain a favourable relationship with the local government and communities surrounding our development projects. The resource will lead the engagement with Provincial and District level government authorities in the project related matters

He/She serves both a proactive and trouble-shooting role in maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with all project stakeholders.


Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities

  • Managing community relations in the project space, in support of the implementation of the Company’s development plans.
  • Lead the implementation of Project Community Engagement Strategy
  • Lead the engagement with local government and communities at district level on the project related matters to ensure that concerns are addressed, clarification and project updates are provided timeously
  • Establish a platform that enable intelligence information regarding community risks are properly managed and escalated, when required, to the leadership and projects teams
  • Manage all related project damage compensation matters. Ensure procedures are updated and aligned with the Mozambican Legal Framework.
  • Prepare an Improvement Response Plan regarding the community project concerns to ensure that the Sasol social license to operate is maintained;
  • Provide guidance to project managers and leadership by ensuring Mozambican legal requirements are respected and adhered, as well as the local costumes;
  • Manage a community metrics dashboard that enable Sasol to track progress over time regarding the relationship with the local communities.
  • Communicating with the project stakeholders about the Company’s operational activities and corporate social activities
  • Generate a communication plan that allow Company Contractors adherence to the Company Community Relations guidelines, mainly on recruitment.


Formal Education

Bachelor’s degree or Master degree (will be an advantage) in Social Sciences, Economics, Social Work & Social Administration, Community Psychology, law or equivalent to tasks required


Min Experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in working with local government and project communities; preference is to be given for experience acquired working on large projects development activities.
  • Candidates must be fluent in Portuguese and advanced English is an advantage



  • Understanding of community development principles & practice.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individuals, groups and agencies.
  • Problem solving, mediation, crisis intervention, and negotiation skills
  • Coaching and mentoring skills and broad experience on community affairs.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Usually used during smaller non capital projects.

Strategic Leadership: Provides vision and direction aligned to One Sasol. Leads organisational change, innovation and sustainability.

Tech Savvy: Knowledge of the Information Technology Industry including trends, emerging technology, best practices, competition, regulations, and legislation.
